What are some of your favorite self-help books/websites? What have you learned from them?
How do you feel about self-help books and websites? As a general rule, I love them and usually learn a lot from them. One issue I have with them though is that so many think their way is the only way and that's just not true. For me, taking what works from different methods has worked the best. For example, from FlyLady I learned that "I can do anything for 15 minutes". From Jon Acuff, I learned to put things on auto pilot that I need to do all the time. An example of this is my packing list. I was traveling a lot and several times forgot my nightgown and had to sleep in my clothes. Another time I forgot my teaching clothes and had to go buy something to wear to teach. My typical clothes are definitely somewhat casual lol. So I created a packing list on my phone (both personal and for training) and I use it to check off when I'm packing. It's helped immensely. I generally created to-do lists every day but I found that there were some things that I wrote down every day like "check blood sugar" or "devotional". So I created a weekly list on my computer that I can just print out every week and then just add the daily things that I need to add. From Gretchen Rubin, I've learned so much. But probably the most helpful things have been from her personality framework called "The 4 Tendencies". This helped me to understand that I am an obliger and I need outer accountability to help me succeed in personal goals.
