What is first place 4 health?

I want to tell you about the health and wellness program that Tom and I are following. First Place 4 Health is a Christ centered wellness ministry that focuses on learning about healthy eating, being active, group support, and bible study. First Place 4 Health was formed in Texas in the 1980’s and is based on Matthew 6:33 which says: But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. The program is centered on the premise that we each have four sides to us that we need to keep in balance: spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental. Mark 12:30 states: Love the Lord your God with all your heart (emotions) and with all your soul (spiritual) and with all your mind (mental) and with all your strength (physical).

The program is set up in 12 week sessions where the group meets once a week to give support, have accountability, and learn about living a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Member’s purchase a member’s kit when they first start at a cost of around $80. This kit can be used for future sessions. Each new session has a different bible study; these cost about $16 each. The bible studies are phenomenal and will change your heart and your life. If you live in my area and are interested in a class, you can contact me for more information. If you live too far away and are interested in starting a group, feel free to contact me for help!

The website for First Place 4 Health can be found here. Check it out and change your life!

what is healthy eating to you?

What is your version of eating healthy?

As I start this blog and website, I’m curious about what others consider “healthy eating”. It seems to have such a different meaning for different people. For me, healthy eating means choosing to eat a balanced diet of protein, grain, fruits and vegetables, and dairy products. I try to keep it simple and not over think it and just make mostly wise choices.

In the coming weeks, I will be talking more about the healthy living journey that Tom and I are on and sharing how we have together lost almost 200 pounds.

Tell me in the comment section what you consider “healthy eating”!

How do  you play?

How do you play? Everyone’s play looks different. What is play to one person is hard work to another. For me play encompasses a few different things, listed here in no particular order:

1.      Having the time to read a good fiction book. I have loved to read for as long as I can remember.

2.      Spending time with my family and especially my precious grandbabies.

3.      This one may seem weird, but finding ways to save money is play for me. I think it is lots of fun!

4.      Spending time with friends, especially those friends that can make me laugh until I’ve got tears running down my face.

5.    Every day is a playful day with the children I take care in my program. It is so much fun to spend the day watching them play and learn.

6.     Walking and working out. If you had told me five years ago I would be saying that, I’d have thought you’d lost your mind! But now the favorite part of my morning is getting up and working out with Tom every day!

Share in the comments how you play!

welcome to My new blog

Well, here I am again, ready to get back into the world of blogging! At first I was going to update my Crockpot Cruise blog but realized my passions have shifted and changed, therefore I needed a completely new start. As I was talking to my friend who recently started a blog, I found out that the free blog sites can take down your blog at any time and you can lose what you’ve written so I made the decision to have another friend build me a blog. So here is my plug for my friend that built my site, Rosie, her website is: http://prairieroseconsulting.info/index.html. Please check her out!

If you have followed my old blogs, here is what I have been up to over the last year and half. I went back to college online and got my master’s degree in education. I still run a family child care program in my home and teach online college classes through the Child Development department at Western Oklahoma State College. In addition to that, I lead the First Place 4 Health class at my church on Sunday nights, trying to inspire others and myself to lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

In this website, my goal is to help and encourage everyone to make sure you make time to play, no matter what your age. I want to advocate for the importance of play in childhood and finally, I want to motivate others to choose a healthy lifestyle.

A playful life is a healthy life! Make time to play!

My passion is to share the importance of playing, and not just as a child, but as an adult also. It is so important to take the time to play and be active. Our children are losing that.
